Pairumani Seed Centre

The Pairumani Seed Centre, whose work forms a natural complement to that of the Centre for Phytoecogenetic Research, was created to market the varieties improved by the Research Centre. It thus participates in upgrading the social and economic situation of rural communities by treating and distributing maize, wheat, haricot bean and other seeds.

Seeds are produced at Pairumani Farm as well as at farms all over the region. Production is contracted out to farmers associated with the project, who are supplied with the necessary seeds and given appropriate technical support. For quality control reasons, all plots under commercial seed production are catalogued and registered with the Regional Seed Board.

The output is marketed via two channels: direct sales to small farmers and distribution through regional agricultural societies. The majority of buyers are small farmers, followed by livestock breeders and institutions.
